Teen Won't Face Charges For Hitting Bicyclist Who Died

CLINTON TWP. (WWJ) - Investigators say a 16-year-old boy will not face charges for hitting a bicyclist who died soon after the accident in Clinton Township.

Clinton Township Police Lieutenant Raymund Macksoud said it was dark and misty when the teen hit the 39-year-old bicyclist at 19 Mile and Garfield late Tuesday night.

"It was a dark bicycle, the person was dressed in dark clothing, in an area that is not well lit," Macksoud said. "There were no exterior lights there, very little reflective material, so it was very difficult for any driver to have seen."

The Lieutenant said their preliminary investigation shows driver experience does not appear to be a factor.

The names of the victim and the driver are not being released. Police say alcohol was not a factor for the driver and are waiting for reports to come back on the bicyclist.
