Business Leaders Lead Discussion On Revitalizing Detroit

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - What will it take to revitalize Detroit -- the housing, the jobs, the schools? Business leaders will be discussing just that, Thursday morning at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield.

Featured speaker Kim Yost, the CEO of Art Van Furniture, said everyone must be on the same page with a common goal.

"We have kicked around an idea that if every business owned a block and over the course of a decade, because that's how long it would take, each business sponsors a block and we literally build Detroit one block at a time," Yost said.

"If was can get the citizens of Detroit absolutely clear on what that decade looks like and what is the dream state, then its the matter of taking 10 annual steps, strategically and tactically, to accomplish it."

Peter Karmanos, Jr., CEO and Chairman of Compuware, and Deirdre Greene Groves, Executive Director of The Collaborative Group, will also be on the panel. The program begins at 8 a.m. at LTU in Southfield. For more information, click here.
