Still Time To Volunteer For Angel's Night Patrol

DETROIT (WWJ) - For a second night, thousands of volunteers will patrol the streets of Detroit Sunday for Angel's Night ... working to keep the number of arson fires down.

A spokesman for Detroit Mayor Dave Bing, Dan Lijana, says things were pretty quiet Saturday night.

"Last night, we got the report in that there were 18 structural fires , so an average Saturday night is typically 26 fires, so obviously we're under the average and pleased with ... the results."

He says Mayor Bing will visit a couple of fire stations and with some volunteers Sunday night.

"He'll be out patrolling tonight, so hopefully, he'll get to, to  see a lot of people and talk to them about, you know,  what they're seeing and thank them for all that they're doing," said Lijana.

Lijana says they hope they get a lot of volunteers the rest of the Halloween period.
