Warren Priest Accused Of Sex Abuse

WARREN (WWJ) - A Catholic priest at a Warren parish has been placed on administrative leave amid allegations of sexual misconduct involving a minor from the earlier years of his career.

Father Gary Schulte has also been barred from public ministry by the Archdiocese of Detroit as part of its ongoing investigation.

Lou Gianatto likes coming to this church for the morning Mass. While he wasn't familiar with Fr. Shulte, he had heard of the allegations.

"We all commit sins, you know. We all will be forgiven somehow ... If we couldn't then what's the existence of churches?"

Other parishioners, like Eunice Monticello of Warren, were shocked and saddened by the news.

"I attend daily Masses as much as possible. I get holy Eucharist, I get Communion, and ... we have a group. So, I don't believe it. I don't know," she told WWJ Newsradio 950's Ron Dewey.

The Archdiocese said they found sufficient substance under their policy on clerical sexual abuse. The case is now pending in Oakland County Circuit Court.
