Deer Causes Multi Vehicle Crash

RIVES TWP. (WWJ) - Sheriffs' deputies in Jackson County say a series of traffic accidents began after a deer walked into oncoming traffic.

Investigators say a 21-year-old woman from Blissfield was driving north on US-127 near Berry Road in Rives Township just before 8 p.m. Monday when she struck the deer and spun 180 degrees, coming to a stop facing south in the northbound lanes.

Her vehicle was then struck by a red PT Cruiser, driven by a 48-year-old woman from Okemos. A third vehicle driven by a 22-year-old man from Lansing, struck both vehicles, causing the PT Cruiser to be launched off the roadway approximately fifty yards, according to police.

The driver of the PT Cruiser was transported to Allegiance Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. The Lansing man was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Lansing for failure to appear on a misdemeanor.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
