Bill's Blog: Nickelback At Halftime? Well, At Least It's Not Jesse McCartney

Nickelback? Nickelback??? This is who the NFL has decided should entertain us at halftime of the Lions/Packers Thanksgiving Day game? First, let me give you a partial list of past Thanksgiving Day halftime entertainment...Jesse McCartney (definitely, no relation to Paul), Mariah Carey, Enrique Iglasias and the Goo Goo Dolls. So, Nickelback isn't that bad. Are they?

Nickelback reminds me of a make-believe band you would see performing at the school on a kids' sitcom on Nickelodeon. While I'm not a fan of this Canadian "rock" band, in fact I think they are the vanilla ice cream of the rock and roll menu, I do not understand all of the hate toward their appearance in Detroit this Turkey Day. Sure, it makes more sense that they would perform at halftime of the Grey Cup but I don't believe the CFL made an offer.

There is in fact a petition at change.org begging the NFL to reconsider their appearance. And it's not just Detroit! There was a movement recently in Winnipeg asking the NHL not to put Nickelback on the bill for it's season-opening ceremonies. Oh well, if Nickelback is the face of rock and roll then it's official. Rock is dead.

Dinner's gonna be a little earlier than usual this year -- Is it wrong to start carving the Turkey around 2 p.m.?
