DETROIT (WWJ) - The chair of the Wayne County Airport Authority has resigned --- just a week after she and fellow members fired Turkia Mullin as its CEO.

Renee Axt and other board members came under fire for appointing Mullin --  who received a $200,000 bonus when she left her position as the county's economic development director in September.

Axt's resignation comes just days after Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano challenged appointees to quit if they had conflicts of interest.

Axt said she resigned for personal reasons and wanted to give Ficano time to find a replacement.

In accepting Axt's resignation, Ficano praised her for her hard work and accomplishments.

"Ms. Axt has been a dedicated volunteer," he said.  "She worked tirelessly for the good of the airport and was very proactive in pushing projects forward."

Ficano accepted Axt's resignation Monday morning and said the search for her successor will begin immediately.
