Jackson's Doctor Painted As Reckless Caregiver
DETROIT (WWJ) - A Los Angeles jury has found Dr. Conrad Murray guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of "The King of Pop", Michael Jackson.
Jackson's doctor was convicted after a trial that painted him as a reckless caregiver who administered a lethal dose of a powerful anesthetic that killed the pop star in 2009.
WWJ Legal Analyst and Talkradio 1270 morning show host Charlie Langton spoke about the verdict:
"This was not an intent ... this was not a real murder trail, this was involuntary manslaughter. If you take a look at the jury instruction (it) said, if Dr. Murray 'unlawfully and without malice' and that word, 'without malice' means the intent," said Langton. " If Conrad Murray was 'negligent' then the jury can find him guilty and that's exactly what they did."
Murray was found guilty after less than nine hours of deliberations.
"The issue here is whether or not there was gross negligence something that was way beyond the call of duty and propanol overwhelming testimony came in that this was a drug that is only used in hospital settings. It's not used to put someone to sleep - that alone could have swayed the jury to vote guilty," said Langton.
Murray will stay in custody until he is sentenced on November 29.
