Ficano Makes Appointment To Airport Authority Board

DETROIT (WWJ) - There's a new face on the Wayne County Airport Authority Board, just days after the chairwoman resigned.

Wayne County Executive Roberto Ficano said former MichCON chairman Alfred Glancy III will fill the spot left vacant by Renee Axt.

"I'm very pleased with his business background ... his ability, also, to do analysis of what's going to be happening at the airport," Ficano told reporters, in annoucneing the appointment.

Glancy said he considers himself a Detroiter.

"I've been around town for a long time and been involved in virtually every nonprofit, and continuing to be involved.

During Thursday's news conference, Glancy refused to weigh in on the severance scandal that forced the board to fire Metro Airport director Turkia Mullin and may have played a role in Axt's resignation.

Axt, along with board members, came under fire for appointing Mullin, who received a $200,000 bonus when she left her position as the county's economic development director in September.

Axt's resignation came just days after Ficano challenged appointees to quit if they had conflicts of interest. Axt said she resigned for personal reasons and wanted to give Ficano time to find a replacement.
