Decision Expected In Case Of 9-Year-Old Driver

WOODHAVEN, Mich. (WWJ) - A decision is expected Tuesday on whether a local dad goes on trial on felony charges, after putting his 9-year-old child in the driver's seat because he'd been drinking.

WWJ's Bill Stevens reports 39-year-old Shawn Weimer is charged with child abuse, after allegedly consuming a half bottle of whiskey, then having his 9-year-old daughter drive their full-size van.

While a child can't legally drive, the issue is whether his actions were likely to cause serious injury or death to his daughter. That's for a district judge in Woodhaven to decide.
