LOS ANGELES (WWJ) – GM says the ZL1 Camaro Coupe will have a sticker price of just under $55,000.

The 580 horsepower vehicle is the fastest production Camaro ever, with a top speed of 184 miles per hour, and a 0-60 time of 3.9 seconds.

“There are very few cars at any price that can match the power, features, and track-capability of the Camaro ZL1,” said Chris Perry, Chevy’s vice president of marketing, in a statement.

Chevrolet will use the LA Auto Show to unveil the convertible version of the ZL1.

GM says the Camaro ZL1 is available with six options:

• Six-speed automatic transmission with TapShift controls is $1,185
• 20-inch, bright aluminum wheel package is $470
• Power sunroof is $900
• Stripe package is $470
• Exposed-weave carbon fiber hood insert is $600
• The suede package, including suede microfiber accents on the steering wheel, shift knob, and shift boot is $500

The Camaro ZL1 Coupe will go on sale in the spring of 2012, as a 2012 model. The Camaro ZL1 Convertible will go on sale in the summer of 2012, as a 2013 model. Pricing for the Camaro ZL1 Convertible will be announced later.

Okay, so let’s see – GM and Chrysler both went bankrupt producing low mileage high-performance cars in an age of high gas prices and low demand. The Government bailed both companies out. For about a year they produced high-mileage small cars, and now are back to producing gas guzzling low mileage high performance cars – and gas prices are even higher. Have they learned NOTHING???? WHO (other than NASCAR and other race car circuits) has the need for a vehicle with a top speed of 184 miles an hour? This is a joke – GM and Chrysler are on the same road to bankruptcy. Sad.
