Panthers Place Another On IR Before Facing Lions

STEVE REED, AP Sports Writer

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Running back Mike Goodson has become the 12th member of the Carolina Panthers to be placed on injured reserve.

Carolina made the announcement on Wednesday. Goodson injured his hamstring in practice last week.

Goodson had three 100-yard rushing games last season for the Panthers, but was stuck behind a healthy DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart this year at running back and did not get any carries. He was the team's primary kick returner to start the season, but fumbling issues landed him in coach Ron Rivera's doghouse.

Goodson was replaced on kickoffs by rookie Kealoha Pilares and has been inactive ever since. Still, Goodson had been making improvement in practice before injuring his hamstring.

The Panthers signed linebacker Kion Wilson and running back Josh Vaughan from the practice squad. Vaughan saw minimal action last season with the Panthers, carrying 3 times for 7 yards and a touchdown. Wilson spent time under Rivera last season with the San Diego Chargers.

The Panthers released safety Jermale Hines on Tuesday.

Carolina plays at Detroit on Sunday.
