AAA: About 1.3M Michiganders Plan Thanksgiving Travel

DEARBORN (AP) - AAA Michigan says an estimated 1.3 million Michigan residents will travel 50 miles or more from home during the 2011 Thanksgiving holiday period.

The Dearborn-based auto club says that's up 9 percent from last year. The holiday period starts next Wednesday and runs through Nov. 27. Ninety percent of Michigan travelers plan to go by vehicle, 8 percent by air and 2 percent by other ways, including rail and bus.

AAA Michigan's projections are based on research by IHS Global Insight.

Nationally, AAA estimates that 42.5 million people in the U.S. plan to travel for the holiday, up 4 percent from last year.
