EXETER TWP. (WWJ) – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred early Thursday morning in Exeter Township.

Sheriff’s officials say 43-year-old Douglass Baltrip of Maybee, Michigan, was driving his 2005 Ford F-250 pickup northbound on Steffas Road, north of Heiss, when his truck veered off the west side of the road where it struck a culvert and overturned.

Baltrip was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was in the vehicle. He was wearing his seatbelt.

What exactly caused Baltrip’s truck to go off the road was not immediately known as the investigation continues.
