Fithian Fab Five For The Weekend Of 11.18.11

Should be a nice couple weeks for Michigan State football. Wins over Indiana this week and Northwestern next week will offer up a trip to the first ever Big Ten Championship. However, I see a late touchdown by Hoosiers covering the big number in Vegas this week. IU +28

Pick Michigan State 35 Indiana 13

I love the turn around for the Michigan defense under Greg Mattison. The way UM is playing this year after the last couple years is really inspiring to UM fans. Unfortunately, Denard Robinson's play under Al Borges' game plans has been frustrating. Too many turnovers by Robinson and Devin Gardner not ready for the middle to late November spotlight, adds up to an opportunistic Cornhusker victory.

Pick Nebraska 31 Michigan 27

Ohio State knows by now that Urban Meyer is taking over next year as head coach. Penn State players just happy to be playing football. I'll take PSU with the points.

Pick Ohio State 21 Penn State 17

I don't know who to pick Eastern -6.5 v Kent, but since I attended EMU you know who I'm rooting for. Not sure how Ron English has done it but he's got Eastern Michigan one game from being bowl eligible. EMU has gone from a 0-12 mark in 2009 to just two wins in 12 games in 2010, and now stands at 6-4 with two games left in the regular season of 2011. I'm picking this game but I'm saying don't bet on it, and I'm not including this selection in my overall picks.

Pick EMU 33 Kent 26

Other CFB games I like:

Wisc -14 over Illinois
Arkansas -14.5 over Miss St
ULMonroe +1 over Fla Int
E.Carolina +8 Central Fla

Pro Picks

It's not a must win mathematically of course, but we all know the truth. The Lions must beat the Panthers Sunday or else they are not going to the playoffs. Teams have been able to run the ball this year on Carolina. So, I expect a game plan for Detroit similar to the tail end of last years season. A commitment to the ground game. Both Cam Newton and Matt Stafford are coming off their worst weeks as pro's last week. I'm just looking to see if Stafford can throw consistently with his fractured finger. Newton is the real deal. Even if he couldn't run he would end up being a great quarterback in the NFL. Of course he can run and he's real dangerous. Lions front seven should be the difference in the game. I like the Lions but I'll take the points and Newton.

Pick Detroit 28 Carolina 24

Other NFL Pick
Seems like the G-Men should roll the Eagles with or without Vick but the line is only four?

Pick NY Giants 24 Phily 21
