DEARBORN (WWJ) – Stores and malls across the nation are getting ready for the big day this week — Black Friday.

Bucking the trend of Thanksgiving Thursday sales and 4 a.m. opening times on Black Friday,  Dearborn’s Fairlane Town Center’s doors will open at 8 a.m. Friday.

The mall’s general manager, Cathy O’Malley, says she loves watching the morning crowds come in.

“This is the first time that I can recall that I’ve seen so much … pre-season selling happening before Black Friday,” said O’Malley. “Everyone is working very hard at making sure they are out in front — which is fine and it’s interesting because I think everyone sort of forgets there is enough  time between thanksgiving and Christmas to get some really great sales and great buys.”

“I mean it’s really fun to watch, with papers in hand, and all the coupons in hand and the door-busters and you know, everybody has their mission,” said O’Malley.

Macy’s, Target and Kohl’s will open at midnight Thanksgiving Thursday for Black Friday sales, while Walmart opens at 10 p.m., and Great Lakes Crossing and Tanger Outlets open at 9 p.m.

Some retail workers are fighting back against Black Friday sales on Thanksgiving, saying they deserve Thanksgiving Day off.
