Police: Woman Was Drunk 'Sexting' While Driving

TROY (WWJ) - A 38-year-old Berkley woman was arrested in Troy for drunk driving, but as WWJ's Rob Sanford reports, it's what she was doing at the time that makes the story interesting.

Troy Police officers were surveying an area near Stephenson and Maple that had recently been burglarized when they spotted a woman standing outside of a car near a business.

After telling her to stay put, the woman drove a few feet and stopped near the cruiser. Police noted she smelled of alcohol and said she had bloodshot eyes.

The woman reportedly told the officers she had pulled over because she was "sexting" with a friend, but dropped her phone and was looking for it.

A search of the car turned up a can of alcohol-infused caramel flavored whipped cream in the console. Police say a breath test showed the woman had a blood alcohol level of 0.11 percent. Michigan's legal limit is 0.08 percent.

The woman, who has not been named, was placed under arrest for operating while intoxicated and open intoxicants in a motor vehicle.
