Sara's Blog: Giving Thanks Really Will Make You Chunky

Do you want the bad news or the good news first? The bad news is that most people really do gain more weight over the holidays than they do the rest of the year. According to two new studies, one from the University of Oklahoma and one from Tufts University, people gain more weight from late November to early January (they needed a study for this? I could have done the jeans test each year and told them that). The good news is that it is usually only about a pound. Unfortunately, people don't often lose the weight they put on each season, so year after year it adds up. According to the studies, one out of seven already overweight people put on an average of five pounds in December alone. If you plan on getting tough with yourself and attempting a diet over the holidays, be careful. People in the studies who said they were trying to lose weight ended up gaining about a half pound. January through November gym life here I come!
