Santa Claus Parade Kicks Off Holidays In Grosse Pointe

Grosse Pointe (WWJ)- The holiday season is underway in Metro Detroit.

While some people were out shopping at malls on Black Friday, others lined Kercheval Avenue Friday morning for the annual Grosse Pointe Santa Claus Parade.

Among those in the crowd was Jody Stidham, who had a camera in one hand and was waving to her young daughter with the other hand.  Stidham's daughter was in the parade.

"I think it's a wonderful parade for the community, it brings alot of people together and today's a great day for the parade," Stidham told WWJ's Florence Walton.

The parade had about one hundred units, including area marching bands and The Parade Company's Big Heads Corps.  It went through the Hill shopping district to The Village shopping district in Grosse Pointe.

Also scheduled for the afternoon and evening were the Authentic Dickens Carolers concert and a tree lighting ceremony.
