Changes Coming To Catholic Mass On Sunday

DETROIT (WWJ) - If you're a Catholic and haven't been to church lately - mass this Sunday may sound a little strange to you.

WWJ's Rob Sanford explains that a change is coming on the wording used during the Catholic mass beginning Sunday.

For many English speaking faithful, it's a step backwards.

In the current version ... God is called "Lord of Power and Might" but it will now be "Lord of Hosts" and Jesus was described as "one in being with the Father" but beginning Sunday - Jesus will be "consubstantial with the father."

As one might expect - the move is causing controversy between the conservative and liberal factions of the church.

Critics say the new verbage is both awkward and confusing.

It's the first big change to the liturgy since the 1960's.
