Going Green When Choosing Your Christmas Tree

DETROIT (WWJ) - Is it too soon to buy your Christmas tree?  Perhaps. But it's not too early to start thinking about it.

WWJ's Gary Lundy says the Michigan Christmas Tree Association wants you to think about getting a real tree this holiday season.

"Go Green!"

That's the word from the organization that represents about 700 tree farms across the state.  Michigan is the 3rd largest tree-growing state for Christmas trees, and has more varieties of trees than any other state.

About 3 million trees are harvested each year, and about two-million end up in places like Illinois, Oklahoma and as far south as Texas.

And yes, it's environmentally safe to get a real tree. They're cut, harvested, and then new trees are planted in their place. And there's nothing more refreshing than the scent of a real tree during the holidays.
