Made In Michigan: Zingerman’s Deli

If you’ve spent any time in Ann Arbor you are likely to have been charmed by Zingerman’s.

This mega Michigan company had humble beginnings.

“We opened up the Zingerman delicatessen in March of 1982 with the intent of just putting out a great corned beef sandwich,” said co-founder Paul Saginaw.

According to Saginaw, the business has grown.

“We opened with my partner and I and two employees. We did just under $100 the first day. We just finished our 30th fiscal year and we have 17 partners, eight businesses and little over $40 million in sales all in the Ann Arbor area,” he said.

Zimmerman’s business model is open book. All employees are welcome to see the company’s money is spent.

Why is this company so successful?

“Successful people and successful businesses all the little and big things that other company’s don’t do,” Saginaw said.
