Food Water Receding A Bit In Monroe County
DUNDEE (WWJ) - Many homes and a number of businesses remain flooded by water in one Monroe County community. They are still mopping up in Dundee from flooding, but it is an improving picture.
City Manager Julius Suchy told WWJ Newsradio 950 on Friday that the River Raisin has crested sooner than expected.
"We believe it crested actually last night and it's started to go down a little bit," said Suchy. "So, the worst is behind us in terms of the actual height of the river, but there' still gonna be a number of days of people are cleaning up and before the water recedes and M-50 is opened."
The river, surging from 2 to 3 inches of rain earlier this week, was reported to be a foot over flood stage on Thursday. The water dropped about three inches overnight.
Suchy said four businesses are still completely surrounded by water, and about 20 homes have seen flooding.
With water up to the windows, the Dundee Post office has relocated P.O. Box operations to the Ida Post office (2888 Lewis Ave.) until the flooding recedes. Packages may be picked up a the Monroe Post Office. (More on this, here).
