Munising Post Office Delivers 'Christmas' Cheer Around The World

MUNISING (WWJ) - Santa's elves are busy in the Upper Peninsula -- mailing Christmas cheer around the world. The Munising post office fields thousands of Christmas cards this time of year, seeking a postmark from the small neighboring town of Christmas, Michigan.

Postmaster Mary Ann Anderson needs all the reindeer magic she can get to keep up with demand.

"We just have limited staffing so everybody kind of pitches in, the clerks and myself, and we stamp as many as we can every day. And they go out every day with the mail truck," she said.

The requests come from all over the world to the small village, population 400, that was named in 1938 after a small factory in town that made holiday gifts. One recent postmark request came from a U.S. serviceman whose family is on a mission.

"They are doing a family collection of stamps so they would like us to postmark the card that they sent. So, we'll be doing that and they're putting together a book, actually," said Anderson.

People who want to box their cards and mail them to Munising to get postmarked need to do so by Dec. 15 to ensure they arrive before Christmas.

To get the postmark, package your cards together and mail to:
