Former Miss USA 'Remorseful' After Drunk Driving Arrest

DEARBORN (WWJ) - A lawyer for former Miss USA Rima Fakih says she is remorseful after being arrested for drunk driving over the weekend.

Fakih was arrested and jailed early Saturday morning after cops in Highland Park pulled her over for driving under the influence.

Her attorney - Doraid Elder tells WWJ that Fakih is "remorseful about what happened."

"Rima has absolutely not a blemish on her record. She's never been in trouble. She's always a law-abiding citizen and she has always given back to the community. Her main objective here is to make sure that she gains the trust and respect and not only her family and friends but from everybody else who looks up to her," said Elder.

A tweet was seen on her Twitter page about the time of her release from jail saying "I'm NOT in Michigan and I'm NOT in jail" -- but that tweet has since been taken down.

Her attorney said that Fakih was not the one who posted that tweet.

"Because of Rima's demanding schedule, there are others, friends and family, that do have permission to tweet things and to post things on her Facebook account. I don't believe they were aware of the situation, prior to talking to Rima. And it may have been something that someone else may have been misinformed responded or pasted that information," said Elder.

Fakih, 26, was born in Lebanon and raised in New York and Dearborn, Michigan.

She won the Miss USA title in 2010 - Fakih was the first Arab American winner of the pageant.

A court date has not been set yet.
