TROY (WWJ) – Protestors will be pounding the pavement Monday in Troy … where an anti-gay Facebook post by the Mayor there has recently surfaced.

Troy Mayor Janice Daniels made the comment, which included a gay slur, when New York legalized gay marriage in June, several months before she was elected.

Josh Schirle who is a gay man from Royal Oak and he has launched a Facebook group opposing Daniels and will be at the protest Monday.

He says he’s appalled by her choice of words.

“There is nothing dignified about the words that she said, whether that’s her viewpoint or not, that’s hate. I don’t think anyone thinks hate is acceptable,” said Schirle.

He says he’s not asking that she be ousted.

“I’m concerned with how she apologies and how she rectifies what she said – I certainly think that she should apologize and I would like to see the city of Troy make a donation to a gay and lesbian charity – community house – anything like that,” said Schirle.

Daniels has deleted her Facebook page since the controversy began. The protest is expected to run from 3 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Monday on the steps of Troy City Hall.

It’s her opinion, good grief a person can’t even express an opinion any more in this country. Bunch of cry babiesw

its one thing to express your opinion, its another to publicly express hate and bigotry. particularly when you hold (or are running for) public office. but maybe LJ is a bigot him/herself.
