Madison Heights Gas Stations Guilty Of Price-Fixing

MADISON HEIGHTS (WWJ) - Four gas stations in Madison Heights have pleaded guilty to charges of price-fixing.

Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette said five gas stations in all agreed to set their prices at an artifically high level to line their own pockets, at motorists' expense.

"Price-fixing undermines the free market and sticks consumers with the bill," said Schuette, in a statement. "If you break the law to line your own pockets, we will bring you to justice."

All the stations were located within two miles of each other on Dequindre and John R Road:

CITGO- Durga Lakeshmi Inc. (11 Mile and Dequindre, Madison Heights)

J & A Quick Stop (12 Mile and John R, Madison Heights)

Sphinx-Monster Oil, LLC. (12 Mile and Dequindre, Madison Heights) Sunoco-Bombay Party Shoppe, Inc. (11 Mile and John R, Madison Heights)

The owners of the fifth gas station, Marathon-Supergas Inc. (Dequindre Road near I-696, Madison Heights), pleaded no contest to the charges.
