Saline High School Student Charged With Ethnic Intimidation

PITTSFIELD TWP. (WWJ) - A 17-year-old Saline High School student has been charged with ethnic intimidation after an alleged attack on another student.

WWJ's Rob Sanford reports the incident took place last Thursday near Saline High School. According to Pittsfield Township Police, a car drove by a Muslim student when a passenger in the vehicle yelled out the window and called the student a "terrorist."

The pedestrian yelled back, which led to the car turning around and 17-year-old Daryl Larkin stepping out and allegedly punching the student in the face.

Police learned of the attack after being alerted to a video of the incident posted on Facebook.

Dawud Walid of the Council on American-Islamic Relations praises authorities for taking decisive action, saying it sends a message that ethnic intimidation won't be tolerated.

Larkin was arraigned on one count of ethnic intimidation. If convicted, he faces a maximum of two years in prison and a fine of $5,000.
