The hockey history I learned, like most of you raised in this area, did not center on geography.

It focused on the Original Six and the rivalries the Detroit Red Wings procured during decades of what many still view as hockey’s Golden Era.

The crest on the sweater matters in the NHL, at least in Original Six towns like Detroit.
