Canton Man Charged In Abuse Of 4-Month-Old Infant

CANTON (WWJ) - A Canton man has been charged in the alleged abuse of 4-month-old infant.  The 25-year-old Anthony Sewejkis is charged with one count of first degree child abuse.

Canton Police said they were notified by a local hospital's staff of the suspected child abuse this week and took Sewejkis into custody.  Police are saying only that Sewejkis is a "family member," while local media is reporting Sewejkis is the baby's father.

Friday, the baby was reported in critical condition at University of Michigan hospital.

Police are not saying what the alleged abuse entailed. The baby's mother told reporters that the child, whose name is Hunter, had fallen off the couch while she was at work.

Bond was set at $500,000 during a video arraignment. His preliminary exam is set for December 19 at 35th District Court in Plymouth.

If convicted, Sewejkis faces up to 15 years in prison.
