Nothing Due? It's Error, Tax Bill Recipients Told

LANSING (AP) - Some Lansing taxpayers who got bills showing they didn't owe anything are finding out that it was all a mistake.

The Lansing State Journal reports Friday that the error on winter bills sent to about 250 taxpayers affected roughly $1.2 million in revenue. Assessor William Fowler says the properties included some with designations such as industrial.

Corrected tax notices are being sent.

The city says several different millage rates, based on the various tax classifications, weren't entered into computer tax tables. It says the computer system is relatively new and first was used by the city during the summer tax cycle.
