Busy Week For Holiday Mailings, Shipments

DETROIT (WWJ) - Mailing a package?  You'll have a lot of company this week.

FED EX says it expects its busiest day this year for shipping packages will be Monday, with about 17 million packages mailed that day.  Spokesperson Carla Boyd told WWJ Newsradio 950's Ron Dewey that's a 10-percent jump over last year's busiest day.

"Definitely driven by that holiday online shopping and better overall retail sales, as well," Boyd said.

Meanwhile, UPS is anticipating its peak period to be a week-and-a-half later on December 22, when it expects to handle 26 million packages.

Both companies say they will likely be busier than last year, as more shoppers wait until the last-minute to buy gifts online.
