Canton Man Shot By Police

Canton (WWJ)- A suicidal Canton man is hospitalized after being shot by police early Tuesday morning.

Authorities say a fire was reported inside the 31-year old’s apartment on Joy Road near I-275 around 4:15 a.m.  As police arrived, the unidentified man jumped from the second floor window.

There was a confrontation outside the building and shots were fired.  The man was hit once, but the injuries are not life threatening, according to police.  One cop received treatment for smoke inhalation.

No other apartment residents were injured.

Michigan State Police detectives are investigating.

Canton police say the officers involved will be placed on administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.
