Goodfellows Continue 'No Kiddie Without A Christmas' Gift Boxes
DETROIT (WWJ) - The Detroit Goodfellows, assisted by the city's police department, handed out holiday gift boxes to thousands of people in need this week on the city's east side.
WWJ's Beth Fisher reports, the Detroit Goodfellows gave out holiday gift boxes for some very needy kids, on the city's east side.
"No Kiddie Without A Christmas."That's been the slogan for the Goodfellows for decades.
Among them, Kenyetta Fortune of Detroit who has three daughters.
"I don't know what I would do ... I just thank the lord for the blessing," said Fortune.
Candace Jiles of Detroit has a 2-year-old child and came in to pick up a holiday gift box.
"Well, because basically ... we have no money, no more - so I was giving her something for Christmas, said Jiles.
The gift boxes contain clothes, books, toys and candy. Jiles said she has been looking for a job, but it has been tough.
The Goodfellows are still working to raise $852,000 to make 35,000 gift boxes for kids and other programs.
The Goodfellows have raised about half of their $1.3 million dollar fundraising goal for the year.
