Metro Detroiters React To TIME's Person Of The Year 'The Protester'

DETROIT (WWJ) - TIME Magazine's person of the year for 2011 is "The Protester." Not any specific one, but the general groups who rose up and took action around the world. What do you think?

WWJ Newsradio 950 listeners flooded the Listener Line with their comments on the pick.

"I think that's absolutely an inspired choice," one listener commented.

"What exactly did [the protesters] accomplish? Nothing," said another.

"TIME Magazine hit it right on the nose. Perfect pick," one man said.

"I think Steve Jobs should have been nominated," another man said.

"The person of the year choice is appalling. It should have been Seal Team Six. I'm very disappointed," commented one listener.

"You've got to be kidding me. Worst choice I've ever heard. Congresswoman Giffords should have been the recipient or certainly the Navy Seal Team that took out Osama Bin Laden," another listener said.

"Yeah, person of the year choice? I think I just threw up a little in the back of my throat," one woman said.

TIME said it is recognizing protesters because they are "redefining people power" around the world.

TIME's "Person of the Year" is the person or thing that has most influenced the culture and the news during the past year for good or for ill.

Last year's recipient was Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke received the honor in 2009. The 2008 winner was then-President-elect Barack Obama. Other winners have included Bono, President George W. Bush, and Amazon.com CEO and founder Jeff Bezos.
