Remains Found Near Home Of Missing Woman

ALBION TWP. (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say human remains have been found near the home of a 33-year-old southern Michigan woman missing for a year.

Several west Michigan news outlets reported the remains were found Friday evening by private searchers in Albion Township, about 35 miles southwest of Lansing.

The skeleton was a quarter-mile from the home of Heather Cousino, whose mother reported her missing last December.

Calhoun County Sheriff's Department Capt. Matt Saxton says identification will be attempted with dental records or DNA samples. The remains also are being taken to a Lansing hospital for an autopsy.

Saxton says investigators have never suspected foul play in Cousino's disappearance. There were no apparent signs of trauma where the remains were found.
