One Dead, Shooter At Large In Clinton Township
CLINTON TWP. (WWJ) - A 23-year-old Highland Park man is dead, and police are looking for a suspect, following a shooting at a Clinton Township apartment complex.
Captain Richard Maierle said they were called to the scene at Hickory Lane near Gratiot where they found the victim shot multiple times, but still conscious and talking to officers.
He was taken to the hospital where he died.
"Our preliminary investigation shows that there was some kind of altercation in the hallway ... on Hickory, one of the apartment hallways," Maierle said.
"They were apparently fighting over a gun. A couple of shots went off into an apartment, slightly wounded a woman in one of the apartments," he said.
The woman is expected to be OK.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Mike Campbell spoke with neighbors at the Clemens Court apartment complex.
"The one guy was running after the guy who shot him and then he collapsed and was like rolling around on the ground and the police were here at that time when he collapsed," said a woman.
"I take the trash out this morning and somebody's dead on the ground ... like, wow," said a man.
Apartment residents said they heard a total of six gunshots during the incident.
Police were searching for a suspect late Monday afternoon. There was no immediate word as to how the suspect and victim knew each other or what the victim was doing in Clinton Township.
