The Adventures of Tintin: A Spielberg/Jackson Masterpiece

HOLLYWOOD (WWJ) – The day I attended the screening of "The Adventures of Tintin," I originally had other plans. So, when I told my son, Ralph, that I had changed my mind and would not be seeing "The Adventures of Tintin," he stopped me dead in my tracks and said, "Are you kidding? I wish I didn't have to go to work and I could see it. That movie is gonna be good." Boy, was he right. And, am I ever glad that, because of him, I changed my mind.

"The Adventures of Tintin" is spectacular filmmaking. It's visually stunning. It's non-stop excitement. It has an excellent storyline. The acting is superb. And, it's directed by Steven Spielberg. Need I say more?

"The Adventures of Tintin" is based on the Tintin novels created by the late Georges Remi, using the pen name Herge'. The books have been translated into more than 80 languages and have sold more than 350 million copies and counting.

Just who is Tintin and what is it about him that has captivated people worldwide? "Tintin is an eager reporter who chases fragments of clues that suddenly blow up into these amazing, globe-trotting adventures," says director Spielberg. "What makes him so intriguing is his relentless pursuit of the truth, although that always leads him down some treacherous paths. It often seems he's gotten himself into some terrible trouble, but somehow, he finds a way out."

Helping Spielberg bring "The Adventures of Tintin" to the big screen is Producer Peter Jackson, who also is responsible for "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Jackson grew up reading the Tintin novels. "When you're young, you can easily imagine yourself going on these adventures that Tintin gets himself into," Jackson says. "They tap into that fundamental sense of adventure we all have."

True to the movie's title, "The Adventures of Tintin" is definitely an adventure -- to say the least. It takes audiences on a 3D thrill ride that starts almost as soon as the opening credits end and doesn't stop until the closing credits start to roll.

I absolutely loved "The Adventures of Tintin" and so did the audience viewing it with me. Not only did several audience members break out into applause at the end, I overheard several people saying they couldn't wait to see it again and describing it as absolutely spectacular. I would have to concur. Don't miss this one. I'll see you at the movies!
