Busiest Delivery Day Of The Year For UPS

LIVONIA (WWJ) - How would you like to be the UPS delivery person Thursday? Wayne Meeks, UPS President for the Great Lakes region, said it's their busiest delivery day of the year.

"Today we plan on delivering 26 million packages and tomorrow will be our peak day as far as our premium packages, which will be six million packages," Meeks said.

Here in Michigan, Meeks said the deliveries will number just about 700,000 packages, and his team is up for it.

"Drivers are used to it. This time of year, I think all of our drivers really give it all for going out there and making good deliveries to our people and delighting our customers," he said.

The drivers aren't only mentally prepared for the day, they're physically prepared.

"We look at them as industrial athletes. Our drivers are actually in pretty decent shape. We do a lot of stuff as far as our wellness perspective to make sure not only are they healthy here at work, but they have that same regiment in their personal life," he said.

Meeks said the only person who can claim more on time deliveries this time of year is the man with the red suit, Santa.
