Detroit Is One Step Closer To Emergency Manager

DETROIT (WWJ) - While there's no official timeline to appoint a financial review team to look deeper into Detroit's money problems, who might be in that group once it's put together?

WWJ's City Beat Reporter Vickie Thomas spoke with Michigan Treasurer Andy Dillon, who said in addition to representatives from the state government, some Detroiters will also be on the appointed financial review team.

"There's two factors that I will weigh in making recommendations to the governor. One, is folks that have financial acumen that reside in the city or others that the community will feel good that they will feel represented in the process. So, there's two important attributes that I look for in who we will recommend to the governor," said Dillon.

Terry Daoud, owner of the Long Family Auto Group and co-founder of the Mackinac Policy Conference, said he's confident the city will get the job done without an emergency manager.

"The people should handle their own situation, and this has been going on for a long time and it's going to take some very careful treatment for us to come back. Mayor Bing has the determination more than anyone I know, and I think he'll work it out and Detroit will be ok under his leadership and all of us, we believe, I believe," said Daoud.

The state will proceed with the formal review of Detroit's finances while the city continues to work on a financial plan to keep from running out of cash in April.
