Getting Ready For Lions Vs. Chargers

By Eric Thomas

I am so excited for the Lions game on Saturday versus the Chargers. I really don't care if people are making fun of me. Part of being a Lions fan is being laughed at. When I lived on the east coast, every time I revealed myself as a Lions fan, whomever I was talking to would laugh and say, "Yuck! Why?". I had to take it, because the person was right. They really were awful. But now, they are a win away form a 10 win season and its freaking awesome. I don't care if I heard that Mike Posner was playing the halftime show, that wouldn't even ruin it. Wait, I take that back, that could ruin it.

Anyway...

I know I am not alone here. It's a sold out game and we are all together on this. There are plenty of people who will be attending their first game at the revitalized Ford Field, and trust me its a different place. It used to be an embarrassing, "think about leaving in the 1st quarter" kind of experience and I can promise you that has changed. The Lions are better than they were in the past, but they still need a push. You have to prepare.

Throat Coat Tea - Its gonna take all 4 quarters to beat the Chargers, and for some reason they are awesome in December every year. Rivers also proved he in susceptible to dropping the ball when it gets too loud (see Arrowhead, earlier this year). So we gotta be loud, every time these San Diego bums get the ball. If you want a little preventive medicine, you can't beat throat coat. How trusted is throat coat? Ozzy uses it.  ($4 at various retail stores)

Warm up your voice - Okay, you might think I am crazy here, but it helps. Even Phil Labonte of All That Remains (trust me, they're metal) does a little singing warm up before performances. Your fellow Lions fans might think you are crazy if you are singing scales while you are getting frisked, but they clearly don't love the team as much as you do. They will sound like a cat hacking to death by halftime, while you are screaming at the end of the 4th. You win.

Bring some cough drops - Pop in some lozenges when the offense is on the field, and while you are doing that, shut your face. Cheer at first downs, erupt at touchdowns, but other than that make NO NOISE while the offense is on the field. I really can't tell you how much of a problem  this has been at Ford Field this year. Sit down and stop chanting "lets go Li-ons!" (claps). I appreciate that you haven't been to many football games, but its important to HELP your team and not hurt them. In fact, please forward this blog or AT LEAST this paragraph to everyone you know that is going to the game. This is the most important thing you can do.

Bang on the plastic seat in front of you - This is for 3rd and 4th downs. Oh sure keep screaming but if you can combine both, it gets crazy loud in that place. Encourage the people around you to do the same. Believe me, the seats in Ford Field can handle it. An easily 400 lb man sat in front of me at the 49er game, no problem. Kinda wish the seats would absorb smell, too.
