Jobless Benefits Can Be Requested During Holidays

LANSING (AP) - State offices will be closed the next two Fridays and Mondays for the Christmas and New Year's holidays, but jobless applicants can still apply for unemployment benefits online.

The automated Michigan Automated Response Voice Interactive Network system known as MARVIN will be available for those needing to claim their eligibility for assistance.

MARVIN is available online to those with free online web accounts at www.michigan.gov/uia. It's also available to users anytime during their reporting week from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on most Saturdays.

Because of the upcoming holidays, state officials say there may be a one- or two-day delay before jobless benefits are either directly deposited into the bank accounts or loaded onto the debit cards of unemployed workers.
