DETROIT (AP) — Detroit police say a Detroit Lions fan ran in front of a city bus and was killed during the team’s NFL playoff berth clinching game at Ford Field.
Police spokesman Sgt. Alan Quinn said Sunday that two men were on a street outside the downtown Detroit stadium about 5:40 p.m. Saturday, or about 90 minutes after kickoff.
Quinn says one of the men ran in front of a Detroit Department of Transportation bus and was killed. The victim was 21 and from Macomb County’s Macomb Township. The spokesman says the name isn’t immediately being released.
The Lions went on to beat the San Diego Chargers 38-10, making the playoffs for the first time since 1999.
Police Cmdr. Dwayne Love tells WJBK-TV that the driver couldn’t have avoided the accident.
