Detroit, MI...The Detroit Red Wings today announced that forward Gustav Nyquist has been recalled from the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League. Nyquist, 22, has appeared in one NHL game, suiting up for the Wings on Nov. 1, 2011 vs. the Minnesota Wild at Joe Louis Arena (0-0—0, 11:07). The Wings also placed forward Tomas Holmstrom on injured reserve. Holmstrom suffered a groin injury late in the second period of Detroit's 4-1 win at Nashville on Dec. 26.

Nyquist was Detroit's fourth round selection (121st overall) in the 2008 National Hockey League Entry Draft. The 5-11, 185-lb. native of Halmsted, Sweden currently leads the Griffins in scoring with 30 points in 30 games (9-21—30) in his first full season in the AHL. Nyquist joined the Griffins at the conclusion of his 2010-11 college season at the University of Maine where he led the Black Bears in scoring for three consecutive seasons and earned two Hobey Baker Award nominations.

The Red Wings take on the Chicago Blackhawks at 8:00 p.m. ET at the United Center tomorrow evening (FS Plus and 97.1 The Ticket).
