Medical Examiner Identifies Body Found In Trunk

DETROIT (CBS) - The Wayne County Medical Examiner has identified one of the women found dead in the trunk of a car on Christmas Day as 28-year-old Vernithea McCrary.

McCrary's body was found along with another woman's in a garage that had been set on fire on the city's east side.  They used dental records to identify the badly burned body and say they'll do the same to identify the other victim.

It was the second time in two weeks that a pair of dead women's bodies were found in the car trunks in that area.

Three of the four women found were listed on escort site Backpage.com. There as no immediate word on whether or not McCrary was one of them.

Is it the work of a serial killer? Talking to Talk Radio 1270′s morning show host Charlie Langton earlier this week, Police Chief Ralph Godbee played that answer close to the vest.

"Given the nature of the business they were involved in, the manner in which all four bodies were found, the location, it's not hard to see that it starts to fall into a serial pattern," said Godbee.

"I want to be very careful what level of evidence we give out over the air … To get a warning out to young ladies who may be taking art in escort services, they need to be very aware of what they're doing," he said.
