Couple Killed While Sitting In Parked Car

DETROIT (WWJ) - A husband and wife were killed while sitting in their car in the parking lot of the Bel Air shopping center on Detroit's east side.

Detroit Police say the victims, both 43 years old, were sitting in their parked car at the shopping center on New Year's Day when a 20 year old man, traveling on Eight Mile Road at Van Dyke at a high rate of speed, lost control of his car and drove over the curb.

The car went racing through the parking lot and struck and killed the couple.

Detroit Police Sgt. Eren Stephens says they don't know whether alcohol or drugs were involved or how fast the man was driving.

The driver of the car was last listed in serious condition.
