U.P. Bracing For Several Feet Of Snow

TRAVERSE CITY (WWJ) - They're going to be seeing a lot more snow up north than we'll see in metro Detroit. And, some people in Traverse City are even happy to hear about a blizzard warning.

Volunteer DJ Sandi Blumenberg got up early for his shift at the Northwestern Michigan College radio station in Traverse City. He had some shoveling to do before he could get out of his driveway.

"I did do some shoveling this morning when I got up to get out of the driveway, but not that I couldn't get out, but it was about four inches of snow," Blumenberg said.

Nevertheless, Blumenberg says the promise of more snow is good news to him. "I'm excited about it. It's about time we got some snow. It's blowing 20 to 30 out of the north and we're supposed to get, you know, five to 10 today here in Traverse City, but inland towards Mancelona and Kalkaska, they're talking 10 to 20, maybe."

There's currently a blizzard warning in effect for Traverse City. Blumenberg says one of their interns is hoping their first day back to school Tuesday doesn't happen, and they'll get a snow day instead.
