Suspected Drunk Driver Hospitalized After Multi-car Crash

ROMULUS (WWJ) - Police say alcohol played a role in an early morning crash near Metro Airport involving five cars.

Romulus Police Sgt. Don Smith said a Cadillac traveling westbound on Ecorse Road past Cogswell crossed the center line and sideswiped an oncoming car just after 3 a.m. Tuesday.

"After the Cadillac came to a rest the driver was near  the trunk when a Dodge Intrepid was coming westbound and struck the Cadillac and the driver," Smith told WWJ Newsradio 950's Ron Dewey.

From there, Smith said the third car went off the road, traveled another 300 yards into the parking lot of a business where it smashed into two other cars.

The driver of the Cadillac was taken to an area hospital and being investigated on the suspicion of drunk driving.

No one else was injured.

A section of Ecourse Road was closed for about six hours.
