Detroiters Organizing To Fight Back Against Emergency Manager

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroiters are organizing to fight back. That message Monday night at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, where the message was loud and clear. The city does NOT need a state-appointed emergency manager.

Marian Kramer lives in Highland Park -- another city on the verge of bankruptcy.

"The city's in financial straits, then the federal government should help us out," Kramer told WWJ Newsradio 950. "You know, they helped out and they bailed out the banks; they bailed out Chrysler, they bailed out GM and stuff like that. Help to bail out the cities, you know, and the answer is not this dictator."

"Everyone realizes we're in this together, I do" Detroiter Russ Ballant said. "But, just as if Macomb County were in a crisis, I would not believe anybody in Detroit has a right to go in there and make demands on Macomb County as to how they do it."

Congressman John Conyers told the crowd that he would use his close relationship with the White House to fight any attempt to appoint an emergency manager in Detroit.

The city is facing a fiscal year budget shortfall of $45 million and could run out of cash by April.
