'Armed And Dangerous' Suspect Escapes Police

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit gang said to be responsible for dozens of home invasions has been broken up by local authorities, while one suspect remains on the run.

Wayne County Sheriff's officials say 24-year-old Jasmire King of Detroit is one of two men who exchanged gunfire with police when they tried to arrest him last week.

Sheriff Benny Napoleon said King made a verbal threat to kill the officers trying to arrest. Napoleon said King should be considered to be armed and dangerous.

Authorities believe King and three others are responsible for as many as 40 home invasions and other crimes. Among the victims is the 80-year-old mother of NAACP Detroit Chapter president Rev. Wendell Anthony.

Already in custody are 71-year-olds Kcajun J. Burton and Denzell Farish and 30-year-old Demetrius Johnson.

Officials say the four are part of a gang is operating under the acronym SYN which stands for "Scandalous Young N-words".

"For some time now we've been going after these b&e teams laying in wait to steal what law-abiding citizens work so hard to get.  They are menaces to the community and we want them out of your neighborhoods and behind bars before they victimize anyone else," said Napoleon.

Burton, Johnson and Farish were all arraigned in 36th District Court.  Burton, Johnson and Farish all are being held on a $100,000 cash bond.  Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Jasmire King are urged to call 9-1-1 or the Sheriff's office at (313) 833-3190.  That tipline is anonymous.
